South Asian countries are one of the largest regions in terms of population. South Asia is situated in the southern region of Asia, which can be defined as geographical and ethnocultural terms. The southern region consists of six countries AfghanistanBangladeshBhutanIndia, the MaldivesNepalPakistan, and Sri Lanka. The major religion of south Asia is Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, Christianity, etc. South Asia covers about 2.0 million sq mi, which is 11.71% of the Asian continent or 3.5% of the world’s land area.

About 1.891 billion population contains south Asia or one-fourth of the world population that’s made it the most populous and most densely populated geographical region in the world. The SAARC or South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation was established in 1985 with seven countries – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan admitted as an eighth member in 2007.
